Lahore – A Journey through the Ages

Lahore was founded by Loh, son of Ram, the Hindu deity some four thousand years ago according to the legends. Proven evidence shows that the city has been there for at least 2 thousand years. It has been the cultural capital of the region for at least a thousand years.Lahore is a blend of history and modernity. This city has been home to the Sufi saints like Data Ganj Bakhsh and Madho Lal Hussein, the kings like Akbar, Shah Jehan, Shah Mehmood Ghaznavi and Ranjit Singh, the singers like Rafi, Mukesh, Mehdi Hassan, Sehgal and Madam Noor Jehan, poets like Iqbal, Faiz and Faraz, cricketers like Imran Khan and Wasim Akram and writers like Amjad Islam Amjad, Ehsan Danish and Pitras Bokhari.

Renowned for its food and open culture, Lahore has always been a tourists’ attraction. The Moghal architecture displays the glorious past and historical importance of this city while Lahore Zoo, Jinnah Library, Punjab University, National College of Arts and Government College University, Lahore flaunt the delightful mix of Anglo-Indian architecture.

However, Lahore is altogether a different place today. The historical master-pieces are still very much there but when today you visit Lahore, you would have to go and look for those beautiful monuments in the walled city of Lahore. Today,Lahoreis a city of tall buildings, offices, malls, markets, parks, grounds, roads, bridges and of course the traffic.

It is expanding belligerently and the modern societies give look of an Pak-European mixed lifestyle. When someone visits today the DHA or Bahria Town Lahore, he cannot even imagine what this city would have looked like some 60 years ago.

The population of Lahore kept increasing due to constant influx of expats in Lahore and with time the capacity of the old city started to dwell. So the Lahore real estate looked beyond the set marks of the city and started to expand it towards what once was called as outskirts of Lahore. These new societies have been developed keeping the contemporary trends in focus with best living and transportation facilities and fulfill all the needs of a resident who wants to live at a place that is away from the buzz of the city yet in connection with the same.

Lahore has changed significantly over the years as it has come a long way from the ages of Ram through the Moghal era into the new global village times and its character exhibits marks of this splendid journey. Lahore is a place that has been a dream for every Pakistani living outside Lahore and it gives all of them today what they desire for including the tourists’ attractions, jobs, education, business and of course accommodation.
